Description & Materials This course gives prospective educators the necessary background information to begin thinking about the multicultural aspects of teaching. Study is made of the historical foundation of American culture in terms of European influences, conquest, and immigration, as well as an understanding of the experiences of various ethnic and cultural groups throughout history and in the present day, as well as an understanding of prejudice and ethnocentrism. Students will complete a minimum of 15 hours of field experience to gain insight into the cultural customs, beliefs, and experiences of a group of people or a person from a culture different from their own.
