Flexible Learning: How does it work?
The concept of distance education can be puzzling. "What am I supposed to do with my lessons," "How am I supposed to take an exam," "Does this take more or less time than an on-campus course?" These are a few of the questions prospective students have.
The following information can help you to learn more about how DCE’s Flexible Learning works.
What types of Flexible Learning do we offer?
We offer both correspondence and online courses. You will receive course study guides, text book, and assessments by mail in a correspondence course.
For an online course, you will have a username and password to access an online course system. All course content and assignments will be available through the online course system.
Many Flexible Learning courses meet General Education and Gordon Rules requirements.
How do I complete/submit course work?
Correspondence course assignments are included in the printed study guide that is mailed to you. You will mail, fax, or submit online your completed assignments to DCE for instructor grading.
There are several ways you may be expected to submit course work for an online course. Two examples are taking online quizzes and submitting written papers within the online course system.
How do I take examinations?
If specified, arrangements will be made for taking an exam and securing a proctor for both correspondence and online courses.
How long does it typically take to finish a course, and how much time can you expect to spend on a course in a typical week?
Students have 32 weeks from the date of registration to complete a correspondence or online course.
It is recommended that students complete no more than 2 lessons per week. Exceptions to this can be approved by the course instructor.
