Online Instructor Role & Responsibilites
The online instructor is responsible for guiding the student through the online course
Before the course opens
The Online Instructor must review and sign off that the course is complete and ready for students. This will be initiated by the Instructional Designer. While you have limited access to make changes to the online course, please do not do so. If you there is something you want to change contact the Instructional Designer.
The Online Instructor must review the following in detail:
- The online content structure, the course navigation and student guidance information
- course information, learning modules, assignments/assessment, communication mode etc.
Example E-Learning Course Home Page
- course information, learning modules, assignments/assessment, communication mode etc.
- All learning activities and how these are delivered in the E-Learning system. For example, if you use the discussion tool you will need to know how to use this tool and be able to advise your student in the context of completing the required learning activity(ies)
- Assessment/assignment submission methods, for example:
- Email document attachments - for written (word processed) assignments
- Turnitin Assignments - to check assignments for plagerism
- The use of the Instructor Tools, in particular the operational aspects of the Gradebook and the Assessment Manager. The instructor must be able to open an individual student’s quiz/assignment submission to:
- monitor student assessment submissions
- manually grade a quiz or portion thereof
- provide feedback to students in quizzes and written (word processed) papers
- reset a quiz availability if necessary (i.e. a student submits a quiz without any answers and you have decided to give that student another opportunity to retake the quiz)
- The instructor must be able to use all E-Learning tools that are to be used by the students in the online course and be able to guide the student in the basic use of these tools as part of the instructional process. For example, the instructor must:
- Know which tools are “turned on” for use in the course and where the tools are located on the menus
- Know the Student Tools and what information is recorded by these tools – MyGrades, MyProgress
