Flexible Learning News Student Newsletter Fall 2008
|
Hello Students,
We hope you had a great summer and
also kept up with your Flexible Learning course. Did you know that our
student body is comprised of UF students, students from other colleges and
universities, and non-traditional students, taking credit and non-credit
courses, and in online and print formats? We want to greet all of you--and your diverse educational goals and interests--to our program. We hope you enjoy this new student newsletter and benefit from the essential information provided.
Please enjoy this first student newsletter!
Reminders
Details! We cannot emphasize enough how important it
is for you to READ ALL OF THE COURSE NOTIFICATIONS you receive from
us.
For students
working slowly on a course: These notifications are helpful reminders about the expiration date of your course,
and it is imperative that you pay attention to this to avoid receiving an
automatic "E" grade in the course.
For students who
need to finish a course before the expiration date:
- The general rule
allows you to submit up to two assignments per week.
-
Allow one-week
grading time after the instructor receives each assignment online or
in-hand. Students who mail in hard-copy
assignments need to add an additional 16 days for the post. This is so slow! Instead, if you have access to a computer, upload
your assignments through Online Services for Students.
-
Plan to finish the course at least TWO WEEKS BEFORE your deadline to allow
for grading and grade posting.

Need
a transcript?
To
request an official UF transcript: please allow a week after completion of the
course for the grade to appear on the transcript.
Please
note that there is a charge for transcripts and, because payment must accompany
each order, the Registrar's Office cannot accept faxed transcript request
forms.
Moving to a new address?
Please be sure to change your address with us, and this is
especially important if you are taking a print-based course and would like to
receive your graded assignments and exams.
If
you move, please be sure to:
- change your
address through Online Services for Students.
- notify our
office of the change.
-
make sure that
you have the new address on the assignment cover sheet. If your former address is on an assignment
cover sheet, the assignment will be sent back to your old address.
- be sure
to GIVE the Post Office your FORWARDING ADDRESS!

Feedback from Recent Students
I
signed up for a correspondence course with you today. I just wanted to let you know that I was very
impressed with your efficiency and speed.
It is actually much easier registering at DCE than on the main
campus. Thanks. [student's name
withheld]
You
were extremely understanding and compassionate about my situation. For that I would like to thank you very much
and tell you what a relief it is to know that when I am able to once again
begin my studies I will be able to have a fresh start. Wishing you happiness, health, and all good
things, [student's

Thank you so very much for
every answer. Your help has definitely cleared up many issues, and I will
go ahead and re-register for the course. Thank you, also, for clarifying
the grading procedure. Thank you for all of your help, and your
time. It is greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards, [student's

And from a parent:
We wanted to send you
a very warm thank you for your help. As you may recall, my daughter was trying
to take a correspondence course and get it paid through the tuition exchange
scholarship she was awarded. We were about to pay for the class up
front, but this could have been costly because she is an out-of-state student
and reimbursement was uncertain. You
stepped in at the right moment and took the initiative to phone the Provost's
Office and arranged a resolution for my daughter's situation. We wanted to
express our sincerest appreciation for your willingness to step in and help us
with this unusual problem.
Please tell your fellow students or co-workers about our
Flexible Learning courses.
Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
