The Gator Nation sends the
Gator spirit to American soldiers serving abroad
The
Gator Nation Campaign and Alpha Productions, a University of Florida
student-run public relations firm, paired up recently to send American
servicemen and servicewomen well-deserved Gator spirit as part of the Gator
Troops program-a partnership between The Gator Nation Campaign and Alachua
County Public Schools.
The
campaign worked with nine different elementary schools and generated more than
2,500 student-written letters and drawings of gratitude for American soldiers. The campaign also consisted of a week-long
drive collecting donated items for soldiers serving abroad, and sent through Soldier's
Angels, a non-profit support organization for the U.S. Armed Forced.

Swine Flu Update
University
of Florida officials continue to closely follow developments in Florida and
elsewhere with the swine flu. Currently,
all campus activities are proceeding as planned. Any schedule changes or updated will be posted
on the UF home page at www.ufl.edu.
The
University has posted the following precautions that will aide in the reduction
in the spread of germs:
-
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you
cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
-
Wash your hands often with soap and water,
especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also
effective.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth as this
spreads germs.
- If you experience flu-like symptoms, call your
primary health care provider.
-
Limit contact with others if you are sick.

Study Techniques
A
recently published article in the Chronicle of Higher Education (May 1, 2009) focuses on something that has been plaguing
students for ages: what is the best way
to study?
The answer that many have found works is
simple- Close the Book. Recall. Write it down.
Two
psychology journals have published papers showing that the most successful
technique is for students to read and then put their book and notes aside. Then recall everything they can and
write it down, or say it out loud. This technique is called active recall and has
been found to be more effective than rereading textbook passages over and over
again.
